What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is an injectable product composed of incobotulinumtoxinA. Xeomin is a neuromodulator injectable which is very similar overall to the more well- known Botox Cosmetic. Xeomin and Botox both contain botulinum toxin. But they are not the same drug. Unlike Botox, Xeomin contains a different form of botulinum toxin with no accessory proteins.
Xeomin works by temporarily disrupting nerve signals to the muscles where it is injected, which means that patients can no longer make extreme facial expressions that cause dynamic wrinkles. These are the wrinkles that form when you squint, frown, or smile, such as crow’s feet, glabellar lines, or horizontal forehead lines. With modern injection techniques, however, you can still freely express yourself and avoid the “frozen” look.
Who Can Benefit from Xeomin?
Many patients can benefit from Xeomin, assuming that they do not have specific medical conditions such as bleeding disorders or certain allergies. Before you receive injections, your health history will be reviewed to ensure that the product is safe for you. Your concerns will also be evaluated to make sure that Xeomin is your most effective option. For example, some wrinkles are caused by volume loss rather than repetitive motion, meaning that other injectables are more suitable.
Xeomin is typically used for:
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose
- Squint lines or crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Platysmal muscle bands (vertical lines) often visible on the neck
- Lower facial muscles such as the masseter muscle (to lessen the squareness and fullness of the lateral jawline), wrinkles around the mouth, and turning down at the corners of the mouth. – Perioral lines (lines around the mouth) or turned-down corners of the mouth
How Long Do Xeomin Results Last?
Xeomin results are not permanent, because the disrupted chemical messenger created by the Xeomin wears off and the normal communication between the nerve and muscle re-establishes itself. On average, Xeomin results last about 3-4 months, although some patients have seen results for up to 6 months.
Your results will vary depending on factors like the amount of Xeomin you receive, the treatment area, and whether you have received Xeomin in the past. Once your results begin to fade, you can have maintenance injections to maintain the rejuvenated look. Most patients find that their results will last longer over time with regular maintenance treatments. During a consultation, a treatment plan can be determined to achieve your best possible results, including scheduled maintenance or touch-up injections as needed.
